I remember the first conversation I’d ever had about running for council. I was at a local event and Miriam King (formerly of Bradford Times, Bradford Today) asked me when I was running for council. I laughed slightly and asked, “Slow news day?” She reassured me she was serious – she thought it would be inspiring to see a strong woman on council, and she thought I’d be great at it.
What’s really surprised me is how many times in the past few years this question has been asked of me, in earnest. It really made me think – why not me? I’m passionate about Bradford, in all of its aspects, and believe that every person has the ability to make the world around them better, or at least contribute to something with the goal of making things better. The amount of support I have received from friends and family when discussing running for council has been astounding, and I hope that others in this town can believe in me as much as they do to make this town its best.
